From the dressing area, a door leads into the en-suite bathroom with a wonderful high-pressure shower, hot spring-fed water and a flush toilet.
Children are welcome at Tortilis Camp. Early mealtimes and a baby-listening service are available, and during the day our experienced guides know how to make a bush walk or safari game drive 'come alive' for young guests.
In the heat of the day, parents can relax by the swimming pool whilst kids enjoy a refreshing dip, with iced-drinks available from the poolside bar.
Amboseli is a place of contrasts: during the hot dry season, mirages appear on the dusty horizon; year around, the elephant herds follow their ancient rituals, migrating daily from the Tortilis forests to the swamps. In the green season water birds: Flamingo, Pelican. Egyptian Geese flock to the park and the arid plains turn emerald green overnight.
In Amboseli, the traditional cultural heritage is strong: the Maasai communities adhere to an age-old lifestyle, herding and trading cattle; a life which they will share with you in their Manyattas (Maasai homes), a circle of dung and mud huts protected by a barrier of thorns against the predators.
Tortilis Camp has raised funds to build a school for the local villages; visits to the school and neighboring villages can be arranged.
At Tortilis Camp, Maasai Guides lead walks into the bush, passing on knowledge of traditional medicinal and uses of local flora and Maasai folklore.
A walk in the bush is part of the magic of a safari: following the spoor of the animals passing camp the night before, smelling the crushed leaves where animals have fed, listening to the bird calls and watching them overhead, this way you touch and feel the wild.
