nothing will stand in the way of a great Kenya safari Holiday. If you’d like to do a safari to Africa, Kenya is one of the best options. The national parks have been maintained well, there’s an enormous variety in wildlife and landscapes, the country has a well developed tourist industry which has made even the remote parks accessible for tourists. However, there are downsides. You’ll often have to drive for hours and this is slow and on the often terrible Kenyan roads (unless you can afford to use one of small air lines that fly between the Kenya cities and many Kenya wildlife parks). And when you’re finally in the Kenya National Park, you’ll keep on driving because it’s usually not allowed (and very unsafe) to leave your vehicle. You’ll drive around – typically two times per day, after sunrise and before sunset – looking for Kenya animals to see. And when it’s hot, the roads dusty and you see the 101st zebra but the darn lion won’t show up… then safari fatigue can set in. How to organize a safari? First of all, if you really want to get the authentic Kenya Safari bush experience, go for at least 5 days on a safari holiday to Kenya. You’ll have a bigger chance to catch the big animals and the same goes for the chance to spend time with some local tribe’s people. You’ll have a bigger chance to catch the big animals and the same goes for the chance to spend time with some local tribe’s people. The short tours can also take you to a quick stop in a tribal village, but such photo-and-souvenir stops can be pretty disappointing, as you’ll often be treated as a cash cow. It is possible to organize your own African safari in Kenya. Most of the national parks are only accessible in a vehicle. You can use your own vehicle, rent a vehicle in Kenya or simply go to one of the main entry gates of the national parks, pay the entry fee, and try to join up with a safari group there. A four-wheel-drive is not strictly necessary in most parks (at least in the dry periods) because the unpaved roads (which you usually cannot leave) are accessible to all kinds of cars. Most Kenya safari companies indeed use Nissan minivans, with roofs that can be opened so you can take pictures without glass in front of you. However, if you have to rent a car in Kenya and other equipment like a tent, then you can just as well go with an organized tour. The costs are roughly the same and being alone, you won’t have backup when your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. In any case, it’s best to book your African safari in Kenya separately from your flight, hotel, etc. This way you’ll have the most options, and you don’t necessarily have to leave your room while you are on your safari. It’s quite common for animals to enter the open camp sites at night, so there’s only some canvas between you and the wild animals. Though we know of no case that a tourist was consumed by a lion or trampled by an elephant, you should be very careful if you have to leave your tent at night.
With the second more expensive type, you stay in comfortable to very luxurious Kenya tented camps or Kenya lodges. You’ll have restaurants, hot showers, wildlife videos and real bed linen there, as well as plenty of staff taking care of all your needs. Many lodges have waterholes and other tricks to lure the wild animals around dawn and sunset to the lodge or camp, so you can spot them without having to go outside. The advantage of this type is that it’s pretty nice to have a hot bath and meal waiting for you after driving for a whole day on dusty roads. With a camping safari in Kenya you should reckon with a minimum cost of $150 per person per day, including park entry fees, a car with driver and cook, 3 meals a day and the hire of equipment (though there’s often an extra charge for hiring sleeping bags and for the booze in the evening). If you stay in tented camps or lodges, prizes are roughly between $290 - $500 per person per day. Above that, there are the real luxurious Kenya safaris where the clients fly in with a chartered jet, and then the prizes hit the sky. There are lots and lots of Kenya tour Operators available if you want to book an African safari in Kenya. Sadly, they aren’t all good. Some of them deliver bad service and others will really try to rip you off. Each National Park in Kenya has its pros and cons. One thing to keep in mind is, the more abundant the vegetation is and the harder it is to spot animals as they hide in the bush. So while some parks have a beautiful scenery with thick bush, other parks with less versatile plains offer much better possibilities for wildlife viewing (called game viewing or game drives in the jargon). Of course, there are also big differences between the animals present. Secondly

Especially crowded are Masai Mara and Amboseli during the tourist high season (July-August and December-January). A third thing to keep in mind, especially when you have more parks in your safari itinerary is the distance between the Kenya Wildlife Parks. They are often so bad that you can’t go any faster than 20-30 miles an hour, and still you’re shaking like crazy. You don’t want to spend your precious safari holidays in Kenya driving on the often terrible Kenyan roads. Game drives are only done in the first hours after sunrise and the late afternoon – in the middle of the day many animals are asleep. This can limit your schedule. A Kenya tour safari has long been one of the most popular African holidays, often combined with a beach holiday to Mombasa Malindi or Lamu Island. It is indeed still an excellent choice for a safari holiday, but in the last few years has 'grown up' to offer a lot more than the fairly standard fare for which it had become known. Holiday Safaris in Kenya are not all about mass market package holidays, and even the Kenya beach holiday options are far better than they were, with a selection of small boutique hotels and guest housesUganda matkatoimistot, Uganda Space Travel, Uganda Student Travel, Uganda Travel Neuvonta, Uganda matkatoimistot, Tansania, Tansania Travel Channel, Tansania Matkailu Com, Tanzaniatravel.com, Tansania Matkaopas, Tansania matkaoppaat, Tansania Matkustusinfo, Tansania Travel Inn, Tansaniassa matkustaa työpaikkoja, Tansania Travel Lodge, Tansania matkapaketti, Tansania Matkapaketit, Tansania Matkapalvelut, Tansania Travel valtio, Tansania matkaliput, Tansania Matkavinkit Tansaniassa Travel Tours, Tansania Matkustaminen Sää Tansania Corporate Travel, Uganda matkatoimisto, Uganda Travel Agent, Uganda Travel Bag, Uganda, Tansania Matkailu, Zanzibar Matkailu, Watamu matkatoimistoalan liitto, Watamu Travels Agent Association, Watamu Matkatoimisto Yhdistykset, Watamu Matkanjärjestäjät Yhdistykset, Amboseli matkatoimisto, Amboseli matkatoimistot matkatoimisto Amboseli, matkatoimistojen Amboseli, Amboseli matkatoimistot Afrikka retkiä paketteja, Kenia Matkailun edistämiskeskuksen Paketit, Tansania Tsavo idän ja Tsavo West, Tansania ylellisyyttä safarit, Tansania Walking Safaris, Tansania vaellus Empakai kraatteri kiipeilyä, Tansania travel matkailuneuvonta, Tansaniassa matkatoimisto ohjelmisto, Tansania Travel kartat Tansania travel haku, Tansania turisteille, Tansania matkailusivustoja, Tansania ajoaikoihin Travel Tansaniaan, Tansania Matkailu Visa, Tansania Matkailu sivusto, Uganda Gorilla seuranta matkustaa, Horseback safarit Ugandassa, Uganda Ishasha matkustaa, matkustaa Jinja, matkustaa Kabale Uganda , matkustaa Kagadi, matkustaa Kagondo, matkustaa Kampala, matkustaa Kasese Uganda, Katonga Wildlife Reserve, matka Kibale Forest, matka Kidepo NP, matkustaa Bwindi käsittämätön Parkwildlife Ugandassa, matka Fort Portal & Kibale Forest, matkustaa Jinja & Bujagali Falls , Kenia Vuokra auto matkatoimisto, matkatoimistot Kenia, matkatarjouksia Keniassa Keniassa lentomatkoja Kenia Online varaus, Kenia Alennus matka, Kenia Online varaus, Kenia liikematkustuksen, Kenia Matkatoimistot, Kenia halvat matkat, matkatoimisto Kenia Tansania yhdistettynä safari, matkatoimisto Kenia Tansania Wildlife Safaris, Luxury Lodge Kenia Travel, Kenia Muuttoliike Matkailu, Kenia lentomatkustuksen, lentomatkustuksen Keniaan, Kenia Flying Matkailu, Flying Travel Keniaan, Kenia Lennot Matkailu, Kenia Lennot matkatoimistot, Uganda matkatarjoukset, Kenia Safari online varauksia, Kenia online safari varauksen, Kenia safari lentolippuja, matkatoimisto Mombasassa Serena Beach Hotel Spa, Kenia perheen edullinen kiertue, Kenia safari lentoyhtiö, Kenia alennus ilman safari liput, Kenia safari alennus varaus, Kenia halpa safari paketti, Tansania Polkupyörä Tour, Tansania veneily, Tansania Boutique Hotellit, Tansania Beach Travel, Tansanian Free Travel, Tansaniassa Dar es Salaamissa Matkailu, Tansaniassa häämatka Travel, Tansania ylellisyyttä matka, Tansania International Travel, Tansania camping Travel, Tansaniasta yhden Matkailu, Kenia Travel, Tansania Last Minute Travel Tansania Nairobi kolkassa, Tansania matkatoimistot, Tansania Online Travel, Tansania Time Travel, Tansania junamatka, Tansania Matkustaa, Tansania vinkkejä matkalle, Tansania matkatoimistot, Overseas Seikkailumatkat, Premier Travel Inn, Sato Travel, ulkoministeriö Matkaan, matkaan Agent Ukunda, matkatoimistojen UkundaKenya safari halpa lentolippuja, Kenia Tour lentoliput matkatoimisto Kenia talous safari lentolipuista matkatoimistojen, Kenia safari liiketoiminta lentolipuista matkatoimistojen, Kenia Majoitus, Matkailu Vaatteet, Travel Vaatteet, Matkakohteet, Travel Deal , matkakohteita, liikenneyhteydet, matka-alennuksiin Reitin Pituutta, Travel Games, Travel Gear, matkatietoja, Matkailu Vapaa-aika, perhelomat Tansaniassa, perhe safarit loma tansania, Safari loma tansania, Lodge safarit Keniassa, matkatoimisto Mombasassa Ukunda Kenia, Travel Agent Mombasassa Kikambala Kenia, matkatoimisto Tanga Tansania, matkatoimisto Voi Kenia, matkatoimisto Mombasassa Bamburi Beach Hotel, matkatoimisto Mombasassa Papillon Lagoon Reef Hotel, matkatoimisto Mombasassa Alliance Africana Sea Lodge, matkatoimisto Mombasa dotted along the Kenya coasts and islands. Kenya Credit Cards
All major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club and American Express) are widely accepted by many Kenyan hotels, Kenya travel agencies, Kenya car rentals companies, Kenya airlines, restaurants, and city shops. Cash, especially in lower denominations, is needed in a bargaining situation. Throughout this guide, the following abbreviations are used: AE, American Express; DC, Diners Club; MC, MasterCard; and V, Visa. It's a good idea to inform your credit-card company before you travel Kenya, especially if you're going abroad and don't travel internationally very often. Otherwise, the credit-card company might put a hold on your card owing to unusual activity—not a good thing halfway through your trip. Record all your credit-card numbers—as well as the phone numbers to call if your cards are lost or stolen—in a safe place, so you're prepared should something go wrong. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express all have general numbers you can call collect if you're abroad. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express are accepted almost everywhere, whereas Diners Club is not quite as widely accepted. Discover is not recognized. - All major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club and American Express) are widely accepted by many Kenyan hotels, Kenya travel agencies, Kenya car rentals companies, Kenya airlines, restaurants, and city shops. Major international credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are accepted at Kenyan banks and by ATMs. It is wise to bring two ATM cards for different accounts whenever traveling abroad, both in case one is stolen or 'eaten' by a machine, and to give yourself an option in case a machine takes only one or the other type. Most ATMs accept Cirrus, Plus, Maestro, Visa Electron, and Visa and MasterCard. The best place to withdraw cash is at an indoor ATM, preferably one guarded by a security officer. Passport and Visas to Kenya
Passports should be current and valid for at least six months after your stay in Kenya. Visas are required. Before you travel to Kenya, you should request your visa from any Kenyan embassy, consulate, or high commission, or from any British embassy in countries where there is no Kenyan embassy. Visas take at least 24hours to process plus mailing time if you live at a distance. You need to send two passport photos with the application and your passport, along with proof of your ability to leave Kenya such as an air ticket. Although visitors are usually given six months visa, the length of stay granted at the airport may be less. It is important to know what is granted so that you can renew your length of stay if necessary. It is also possible to purchase a visa on arrival at the airport. US passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya, but they can get it at the airport or border crossing when they arrive in Kenya (it is preferable to have the US$50 in cash with you). If you want to plan ahead then you can apply for a visa in the US. Details and forms can be found on the Kenyan Embassy web site. Nationals from some Commonwealth countries do not need a visa with the exception of Antigua, Bermuda, Guyana, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the UK. All nationals of other countries require a visa. Tourist visas are valid for 30 days. For up to date information see the Kenyan Embassy web site. There are two consulate locations in the US, Los Angeles & New York. A single-entry visa costs US$50 and a multiple entry visa US$100. If you are planning on visiting just Kenya, then a single-entry is all you need. If your plans include crossing over to Tanzania/Zanzibar to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, visit the Serengeti or go see the gorillas in Rwanda then you'll need a multiple-entry visa if you wish to re-enter Kenya again. * How to get from Tanzania to Kenya, Kenya Visa, Visa for Kenya, Request recommendations for Safari in 2011, What to see in Nairobi, Nigerian Visa, Public transport in Kenya for tourists, UK or Pakistan Passport, Which passport should I use to visit Kenya, choosing tour operator in Kenya, Best time of year for an African Safari, How safe is it to travel in Kenya in 2010, Nairobi climate and weather, When is the best time to witness the Wildebeest Migration, Going to Kenya on my own with two children, visa requirements when connecting flight in another african country, Got a question or comment about Nairobi? Kenya: Tipping & Etiquette

Most Kenyans in the travel industry are paid very low wages and rely heavily on tips. Tipping is down to individuals as you tip according to the service you get. Tipping is not compulsory but is expected for tour guides and drivers, waiters and hotel staff. Where a service charge has been included then tipping is not really required but it does depend if you think the charge is going to the staff. Ask the waiters if not sure. Tipping is normally at the rate of 10% and about 25 Kshs/bag for a porter. It is normal practice to tip the driver and safari guide. Old clothes that you want to dispose are always appreciated by people like watchman or housekeeping staff. If you give to housekeeping staff does provide them with a note so that they are not accused of stealing your clothes! There is no tourist office in Kenya and so visitors have to rely on sites like ours. We do try and provide the best tourist information and make every effort to be fair, honest and comprehensive. If you notice something pleas do email us, we will correct and your help is appreciated. There are useful notice boards in the entrance to the Sarit Centre in Westlands and the Yaya Centre in Hurling ham. The high tourist season is in the dry season. That means December and January and again in July and August. The dry season makes it easier to travel around the game parks. July and August are normally the best times for game viewing and is the season for the Wildebeest migration in the Masai Mara. The sea is clearest from October to January and the best times for viewing the coral reefs that line the coast. Travel is still possible in the rainy season, between the rainfalls the sun does shine! The landscape is very green during the rainy season and lodges are cheaper. Most Kenyans in the travel industry are paid very low wages and rely heavily on tips. Kenya Weather & Climate

- Kenya’s diverse geography means that temperature, rainfall and humidity vary widely, but there are effectively four distinct zones. The hot, rainy plateau of western Kenya has rainfall throughout the year, the heaviest usually during April, when as much as 200mm may be recorded, and the lowest in January, with an average of 40mm. Temperatures range from a minimum of 14°C to 18°C to a maximum of 30°C to 36°C throughout the year. The temperate Rift Valley and Central Highlands have perhaps the most agreeable climate in the country. Average temperatures vary from a minimum of 10°C to 14°C to a maximum of 22°C to 28°C. Rainfall varies from a minimum of 20mm in July to 200mm in April, falling in essentially two seasons – March to the beginning of June (the ‘long rains’) and October to the end of November (the ‘short rains’). Mt Kenya and the Aberdare Range are the country’s main water catchments, with falls of up to 3000mm per year recorded in these places. In the semiarid bushlands of northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest. The average annual rainfall varies between 250mm and 500mm. The consistently humid coast region has rainfall averages from 20mm in February to around 300mm in May. Rainfall is dependent on the monsoon, which blows from the northeast from October to April and from the southwest for the rest of the year. The average annual rainfall is between 1000mm and 1250mm (less in drought years). Average temperatures vary little during the year, ranging from 22°C to 30°C. Kenya time zone

The Kenya time zone is GMT/UTC +3. This means that Kenya’s time is three hours ahead Greenwich Mean Time. Kenya’s time zone makes it two hours ahead of cities like Paris and Rome, three hours ahead of London and Monrovia, eight hours ahead of New York City, and eleven hours ahead of Los Angeles. Time zone is a region on Earth that has a uniform, legally mandated standard time. Almost all time zones on land have legally defined borders which coincide with the borders of the country mandating the time or some subdivision thereof. Of the 40 time zones on land, most are offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by a whole number of hours (UTC−12 to UTC+14), but a few are offset by 30 or 45 minutes from a nearby hourly zone. In addition to land time zones, there are 25 nautical time zones, all separated by lines of longitude. Most (UTC−11 to UTC+11) are 15° of longitude wide, which is one hour of Earth's rotation relative to the Sun, but an hourly zone in the central Pacific Ocean is split into two 7.5° wide zones (UTC±12) by the 180th meridian, part of which coincides with the International Date Line. Many land time zones are skewed toward the west relative to the corresponding nautical time zones. Before 1972, all time zones were specified as an offset from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which was the mean solar time at the meridian passing through the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, United Kingdom. Since 1972, all official time services have broadcast radio time signals synchronized to UTC, a form of atomic time that includes leap seconds to keep it within 0.9 seconds of this former GMT, now called UT1. Many countries now legally define their standard time relative to UTC, although some still legally refer to GMT, including the United Kingdom itself. UTC, also called Zulu time, is used everywhere on Earth by astronomers and others who need to state the time of an event unambiguously. The Kenya time zone is GMT/UTC +3. Kenya Safety

Crime is a risk in Kenya and is well reported in the local and international press which tends to exaggerate the risk. Huge numbers of tourists come to Kenya each year and have no problem at all. Just be sensible and do not walk around at night, use taxis, do not carry large amounts of cash on you and make full use of the hotel safe for all valuables. Do not carry a bag that identifies you as a tourist. Watch out for con men and ignore people who come up to you with offers of services. Do not accept offers of food or drink for strangers in the street or on public transport as it could be drugged. In the unlikely event of being mugged do not resist and remember if you shout 'thief' the mugger will be set upon by the crowd and most likely be killed and so best to move quietly away from the incident. If you go the police you will be involved in a lot of paper work and may have to spend time assisting the police find the criminal through an identification process. Car jacking is a potential crime if you are driving yourself. Be aware at stop junctions, check your rear view mirror that you are not being followed, and maintain a distance between you and the car in front. Kenya Roads Condition
Driving conditions in Kenya and East Africa are not straightforward. There may be obstacles on your route like stones and trees. Roads can have quite violent corrugations and a lot of the tarmac roads are badly maintained. They often have terrible potholes. When it comes to signpost, you often have to rely on yourself and your map. If you are going on a self drive safari, please don't hesitate to ask us about your route and the weather / road conditions. We prefer that only people who are experienced in independent self drive travel in Africa undertake a self drive safari in Kenya. That is not necessarily a hard and fast rule - it is just that previous experience will help you to cope with some of the potentially tricky conditions you are likely to encounter there. If you have travelled independently elsewhere and feel confident enough to take on Kenya, we will be pleased to assist you. Some of the areas through which we travel in Kenya are extremely remote and anyone heading off on a self drive safari across these more isolated regions must be prepared to take responsibility for many aspects of their safety. There are many areas where signposts simply do not exist and routes are marked with an arbitrary pile of rocks or a daub of paint on a tree; interpretation of these signs is somewhat hit and miss! Camping sites in Kenya are unfenced and very basic (with little or no facilities) and the plentiful game can and will come wandering into camp. Despite the harder driving conditions, Kenya remains a sensational self drive destination and, for those able to cope with a more challenging self drive, it is hugely gratifying. Owing to the conditions in Kenya, we think a very good idea to do an off road driving course prior to departure especially if you do not have much experience of off road 4x4 driving. Please let us know if you are interested in having some instruction before you go and we will point you in the right direction. The courses are normally either a half day or full day and are great fun in their own right If you do book a course, we are always happy to speak to the people that run it and advise them of the kinds of conditions you could experience on your safari in Kenya.

We accept payment by Visa and Master Card but there is a 5% surcharge for Credit Card Payments. It is better to book safaris tours to Kenya as far in advance as possible to ensure availability at the time you wish to travel, especially during the high/peak seasons.
On all Kenya holidays packages international Airfare to and from East Africa is not included. We recommend that you make contact with a local travel agent for this. However, should you encounter difficulties; we can recommend reliable travel agents. We are planning an African safari to Kenya. A tented safari camp and Safaris lodges in Kenya and Tanzania insists that we pay a 25% deposit in advance on the basis that it will be during the wildebeest migration in Masai Mara. Considering that the safari deposit is non-refundable and also we might change our mind as we have 1 year to go before our safari, should we commit with a deposit. The wildebeest migration period is one of the busiest times in Masai Mara plus Serengeti and often tented camps and safaris lodges are fully months in advance. While planning in advance is essential you have to be careful not to commit with a safari deposit before you have counter checked that the choice of accommodation you are making on the safari itinerary and also the tented camps and lodges is the right one. 25% deposit looks to be on the very high side for non-refundable safari deposit but it is essential if you will have a secure booking. A safety net in Kenya Tanzania migration safari bookings is to book into lodges and safari camps that have a chain of properties. This will allow you to change your itinerary but still remaining in the same properties and without having the cancellation policies enforced. To wrap up, most safari camps are flexible with their books - be candid with your preferred camp and they ill possibly accommodate your wishes.

When it's cold up in the northern hemisphere, it's certainly warm along the Kenyan coast. In fact, it's always warm along the Kenyan coast, which makes it such a great beach destination, really. Throw in the fact that rich blue water and soft white sand awaits you, and you have a recipe for success. The Kenya beach resorts are easily some of the best accommodations in the country, and there are even coral reefs found offshore that make the experience all the more dazzling. Mombasa, Lamu, and Malindi are the top beach destinations in Kenya, but all up and down the coastline, the experience is utterly satisfying. Are you in dire need of a beach holiday in Kenya, you will have to think of Mombassa Beach Safari. This is the best place for beach holidays in Africa. Kenya Beach Safaris have a unique touch when it comes to beach vacations. They are uniquely flavored environments. What is even more appealing about beaches in Kenya is that they offer unrivaled experiences in all categories. Travels on Kenya holidays are assured of a worth-your-time re-energizing vacation in the country. Aside from the popularity of the annual wildebeest migration, beach safari to Kenya also has a lot more to offer to Kenya tourists. The country boasts fine beaches lined with protective coral

To name one, Serengeti National Park, the most talked about park where most of the nature shows are filmed. This park alone, with Masai Mara bordering to the North, is famous for 'the great migration' where millions of wildebeest and zebra are constantly moving in search of pasture. Trekking up the highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro and an experience even if you don't make it to the top, you will never forget. Some remember is with a certificate congratulating them of their achievement in reaching the top and some with frost bits. Zanzibar Island or fondly known as the Spice Island because of its history of trading Spice like cloves, cinnamon with the Far East. Ruled by the Omani Arabs in the 1800s until the early 1900s, this little Island had a thriving economy with commodities from spices to slaves. These are to name a few of the attractions that make Tanzania a great destination. Tanzania and Kenya are some of the safest East African countries. We have not experienced any civil unrest that has resulted in violence in the last few decades. The people are generally friendly and will not be rude towards you. However, just as any country, you have to be cautious of your surroundings. Few safety precautions should be taken, such as going in groups, not walking in isolated or dark areas, and not accepting food or drinks from strangers. Avoid wearing flashy jewelry or loosely carrying purses or cameras. Use your best judgment as you would traveling in any country.

Can I take my children on safari?
Children are very welcomed to accompany their parents on Kenya children safari as most lodges do not have a problem with that. However there are some restrictions with some high class properties that do not take children again these you’ll have to confirm with us before booking your Kenya Child Safari. A safari to Kenya is wonderful for children old enough to enjoy and appreciate the experience. Its advisable that you bring a child to Kenya above 3 years, however with very good planning you could bring children at 2 years. Depending on the Kenya Family Safari, many safaris (e.g., Road safari to Kenya) involve a long trip on rough roads, which we cannot recommend for babies, but we offer Family Safaris to Kenya and Luxury Safaris to Kenya which blend road and air transport, that are carefully planned to ensure the comfort of children and the elderly. Children less than 12 years benefit from reduced fares on scheduled airlines and at all lodges. A few of the more expensive permanent tented camps prohibit children under 12. Restrictions on certain activities also apply for younger children, so kindly check before booking. Please carry enough baby food and accessories, which might be unavailable on Kenya Family safaris. Special meals for babies cannot be guaranteed. The children activities on this safari include: meeting chimpanzees, making fire with a pair of sticks, horse/camel riding, boat ride, memory games, feather collection, treasure hunt etc. Years of experience have taught us that every family has a unique blend of interests, desires and dreams to be fulfilled. If this program does not meet your interest and circumstances, kindly send us an email and we will use our experience to create the perfect safari adventure for your family. Buffalo and wildebeest may be in herds of hundreds or more. Others, like the swift cheetah, are more likely to be found alone. And then there are the birds, over 300 species! Birds in Africa are particularly colorful and easy to spot. Even if you've never looked at a bird before, with the help of your driver you'll easily learn to identify twenty to thirty of the most striking and beautiful birds of Africa. Experienced birders can expect to see 60 to 100 different species in a single day.A special thrill is in store if your safari coincides with the annual wildebeest migration. You'll see thunderous herds of wildebeest and zebra, totaling more than 1 million, stretching across the horizon. On their trail follow the predators the big cats, and the scavenger’s hyenas, jackals and vultures. Whenever you go, you'll see animals as you've never seen them before roaming free, just as they have for millions of years. Because you are traveling in protected game reserves, many of the animals have no fear as long as you are in a vehicle. You can get surprisingly close, especially when lions are busy feeding on prey, or at rest. Elephants often walk up to and even surround a minibus. Monkeys and baboons may study you as closely as you study them. But natural behavior will only continue if you give the animals

If you go too close, or talk too loudly, the animals may just leave.  Most animals will be more interesting if allowed the space to continue their natural behaviors- stalking, mating, and playing with their young. Your driver will know the best viewing distance. Please do not encourage him to "stalk" or otherwise interfere with hunting or other activities crucial to the animal's survival. No, not if you stay within the marked boundaries of your lodge or in your minibus. Your guide and driver know what is, and is not, safe. Incidents involving animals are rare in East Africa and are, almost without fail, the result of someone doing what they have been advised not to do. Nairobi is a big, bustling city.  Avoid wearing flashy jewelry, hold onto your purse and camera bag, beware of clever conmen and don't walk in the city at night. Do not wear money belts, since they can easily be cut off from the rear. It is always a good idea when you travel to keep a photocopy of your passport in your suitcase and another at home. The people are friendly, and the government patrols the game parks - their most treasured resource- for the safety and benefit of all.

Where is the best place to go on safari?
You simply can't beat Kenya's many national parks and reserves for stunning different landscapes and environments, not to forget all the animals you'll see there on your safari. We have loved this country, our home, for years and not only do we value its beauty but we are encouraged by the positive feedback we get from our guests all the time.

What is the Wildebeest migration?
The Wildebeest migration is a spectacle no-where else to be seen on earth. Millions of animals move over great distances in search of pastures and water. The migration starts and ends in Tanzania, but Kenya is a fantastic place to watch the animals as they struggle to cross rivers and evade predators. Visit our dedicated Wildebeest migration page for in-depth information about this natural wonder.

What if I want a tailor-made safari?

No problem! We at African Safaris and Adventures would be delighted to plan a Kenya safari that fits your interests and budget. The page Planning & Preparation will give you an overview of which factors need to be considered when planning your tailor-made trip and we will be happy to communicate with you in person to make your dream come true!

How big are the safari groups?
As with everything in life, this is a question of price. If you choose a tailor-made Kenya safari the minimum number of guests is one, however, cost will come down if there are two or more people in your party. Our scheduled safaris depart with a minimum of 4 participants but arrangements can also be made for less than 4 guests.

What if I want to travel on my own?
That is not a problem; you can always have your own tent and room when you pay a single supplement. Alternatively, if you choose to, we will do our best to fit you together with another guest traveling alone or in small groups.

What are the driver-guides like and which language do they speak?
We provide professional guides & tour managers who speak English and really know and love their country. They are very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna found here and contribute a great deal to the success of your Kenya safari. Your driver-guide will accompany you throughout your tour. Other foreign language speaking guides can be provided on request.

What's the food like on safari?
You will be pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the variety of the food available on your Kenya safari. In most lodges and some camps meals are served buffet-style so you can choose what you like. The food is prepared according to western tastes, with some curries and local cuisine included. Most fresh meat and produce is procured locally and then prepared by expert chefs to the highest standards. Returning guests are consistently amazed by the meals being prepared out in the bush! Vegetarian or diabetic meals can easily be arranged with advanced notice. If you are vegetarian or vegan you may wish to bring along some alternative protein sources. If you have multiple food allergies, you'll definitely want to bring along supplemental snacks. It is important we know of any possible dietary restrictions as soon as possible in order to arrange everything to fit your needs.

Can I drink the water?
Please drink bottled water only. You can purchase good quality bottled water at all the lodges and camps and anywhere else you will be going.

What clothes should I bring on my Kenya safari?
Kenya Safari dress is comfortable and casual - layers are recommended. Keep it simple and bring things you don't mind getting dusty. For your convenience we’ve put together a comprehensive packing list in the Planning & Preparation section

How do I get to Kenya?
We do not book international flights. However, there are many scheduled and chartered flights with destination Kenya (Nairobi or Mombasa); visit our Helpful links page (coming!) for a list of airlines. Once in Kenya there is an efficient network of internal flights between the safari areas, Nairobi and the coast. If your have booked an air safari all arrangements are made
