DAY 1-2 - NAIROBI - Giraffe Manor
On arrival you will be met at the Airport and transferred to the Giraffe Manor, situated on 120 acres of forested land, just eight miles from the city centre. Giraffe Manor was built in 1932 and is now managed and operated by Rick Anderson, son of Betty leslie Melville, the co-founder of AFEW. Generations of the endangered Rothschild's Giraffe have been raised here and occasionally visit the manor for treats. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to take a city tour to experience the sites and sounds of Nairobi, including a visit to the National Museum. Return to the Manor for an exquiste dinner prepared by a gourmet chef and served in an elegant dining room panelled in rich, dark wood. Overnight at Giraffe Manor on full board basis. On day 2, after breakfast, visit Karen Blixen's former home, now a museum. The museum is located in prosperous Karen in a lovely african setting. This well preserved memorial contains pictures and original furniture that belonged to Karen Blixen. The coffee farm is long gone, but one can still enjoy lovely views of the Ngong Hills from the veranda of this elegant stone house. Spend rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Giraffe Manor on full board basis.
DAY 3-5 - MASAI MARA - Rekero Farm
After breakfast transfer to Wilson airport for your flight to the Masai Mara. Transfer to Rekero Farm, the Beaton family home in the Mara. Here the guests will sleep in charming and well appointed cottages set in a pretty garden and may have extremely close encounter with the local wildlife as they come to drink from the waterhole which is illuminated at night. Elephant, buffalo and leopard regularly visit the farm. Wildlife viewing on foot or by vehicle is tailored according to the movement of wildlife and steered away from mass tourism. Rekero guides, from the local Masai and Ndorobo communities, will accompany you on day and night game drives, bush walks, bird watching trips, picnics, sundowners and cultural visits. This is the Africa of which you have a dreamed. Overnight on full board basis and inclusive of beers, wines and soft drinks (except cellar wines and champagne).
DAY 6-8 - RIFT VALLEY - Kongoni
Transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Naivasha. Transfer to Kongani Game Valley Ranch, a thousand-acre game park overlooking Lake Oleiden. Built in 1926 on the Naivasha lakeside by Margaret Carnegie, a wealthy american widow, it was named after the antelope of the species that they found there. Privately owned, Kongoni Game Valley still preserves the natural beauty of this land and its wildlife. Life here is restful and luxurious. Meals are international in flavour, the owner's Mediterranean roots result in fabulous home-made Italian dishes with pastas and ice creams to die for, but menus are tailored to guests' needs and requests. Daily game drives and walking safaris are taken with masai guides whose knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants is just as fascinating as their understanding of wildlife. Further activities include boating on lake, bird watching and sundowners while a large sparkling swimming pool provides a place to cool off in the hot afternoon sun. Overnight on full board basis.
DAY 9-11 - SOUTHERN KENYA - Ol Donyo Wuas
After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your flight to the Chyulu hills. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Ol Donyo Wuas, a private lodge situated on the slopes of Chyulu hills. Built in 1986 as Richard Bonham's private home, the lodge has exclusive access to 250,000 acres of East Africa's wilderness. The lodge is built on lava rock overlooking vast plains with Mount Kilimanjaro rising mistily in the distance. Built from indigenous materials, Ol Donyo Wuas harmonises with the landscape. The main lodge and the six cottages are solidly built of local stone and sinuously twisted wild olive timbers from fallen trees. Rich, dark woods combine with Masai carvings, flowing mosquito nets on four poster beds and soft fabrics to make a decorative style that is sophisticated in its pleasing simplicity and yet which refuses to prevent the eye turning outwards to the wonderful vistas. The activities on offer are extremely varied. Game drives and game walks are complemented by plant walks with Masai guides who offer information on medicinal and other uses for the local flora. The pleasure of early morning game walks or horse rides is enhanced by a huge bush breakfast, cooked under acacia trees, eaten at a fully laid table and beautifully served. Other activities include visit to the caves in the Chyulu Hills, a masai village and sundowners, taken on the terrace or Nongea Rocks with the roseate evening sky surrounding you. Overnight on full board basis at Ol Donyo Wuas.
DAY 12-14 - LAMU - Kiwayu
Transfer to the airstrip for your flight to the coastal Island of Lamu. On arrival in Lamu you will be transfered by boat to the exclusive Kiwayu Safari Village, located in the Dodori National Reserve. At Kiwayu you will be able to enjoy the alluring white coral beach, excellent snorkelling, sea sports, deep sea fishing (not included), and visits to cultural sites, mangrove swamps and the Dodari National Reserve. The cottages, known as "bandas," are constructed using mangrove poles, palm thatch and matting and are set apart, between the gently swaying star palms that dot the shore, so that guests enjoy complete privacy. The bedrooms are large, airy and open to the beach and glorious views of the ocean. The excellent seafood and gourmet cuisine at Kiwayu is highly praised by various magazines and connoisseurs. Overnight at Kiwayu Safari Village on full board basis.
